Many people think they should stretch before exercising in order to "warm up" the muscles and avoid pulling something. I have read that it is important to be careful with this, because stretching when muscles are cold and inflexible can actually cause you to pull something before your workout even begins! It's better to warm up by starting with a brisk walk while pumping your arms. This gets blood flowing to the muscles so that they really do warm up gradually. Then, proceed with your workout. After your workout is a prime time to stretch because your muscles really are at their warmest and most flexible. After a workout is the best time to increase your flexibility through stretching.
So go get back the flexibility you used to have!
