Prostate cancer is the number two killer of men, which makes prostate cancer a very real concern for men and while there are some prostate cancer triggers you might be aware of, most men are not aware of these five triggers that recent studies show as risk factors.
One in seven men will receive a prostate cancer diagnosis in their lifetime according to the American Cancer Society. It is the second most common type of cancer seen in American males, with skin cancer being the most common.
Let’s look at those five hidden triggers that could cause prostate cancer.
Canned Foods
Canned foods are loaded with a chemical called bisphenoal-A or BPA. According to the Cincinnati Cancer Center BPA can trigger the growth of prostate cancer cells.
A recent study took urine samples from a group dealing with prostate cancer, especially in those who were under the age of 65. What they found I is that their urine contained eight times more BPA than those who did not have prostate cancer. Researchers believe that BPA may be able to disrupt the normal splitting of cells and this could play a role in the spreading of the disease.
Besides canned foods, BPA is found in many different plastics including microwaveable food containers and plastic sport water bottles.
Booze
You might want to go easy on the booze. A study recently out of Canada discovered that the more alcohol you consume throughout your life, the higher your odds are of developing prostate cancer. A study out of Brazil found that the risk goes up if you knock back more than two drinks every day. According to the research acetaldehyde, which is found in alcohol, could be a possible contributor to prostate cancer. It’s believed it works like a solvent and helps the carcinogens to be able penetrate the walls of the cells.
Milk
According to research out of the UK, men who consume high levels of dairy products have an increased risk of prostate cancer. The researchers go on to say that your body’s level of IGF-1 goes up when you consume high amounts of dairy protein and previous research has shown that IGF-1 might speed up the rate which cancer cells spread. However, the study did not say how much dairy was too much, only that your risk increased.
It’s also important to not that IGF-1, is not a bad thing in general. IGF-1 is linked to the amount of HGH your body produces, which can help to slow down the aging process. You can increase your IGF-1 levels when you take an HGH supplement. This finding may frighten some into thinking they should not take an HGH supplement, but HGH supplements are perfectly safe. Remember, an increase in IGF-1 does not cause prostate cancer, it only increases the rate that cancer cells spread when you already have the cancer. Early detection is the key here.
Acids
Omega 3 fatty acids have been proven to reduce your risk of cancer, but a study out of Australie has identified two types of dietary acids that promote the growth of prostate cancer – palmitic acid and linolenic acid. Foods that are high in linolenic acid include desserts that are grain based like snack hips, cake and cookies, salad dressing, and snacking chips. Foods that are high in palmitic acid include lard and butter.
Nitrogen Dioxide
Nitrogen dioxide is a major component in traffic, which causes air pollution, and the University of Queen researchers have identified that it has been linked to higher prostate cancer rates. The more nitrogen dioxide near your home the higher your risk because the inhalation of this gas affects your immune system, which is unable to stop the spread of various cancers, including prostate cancer. Moving to the country or at least away from the busy areas in the city are one way to avoid or at least decrease your exposure.

There are a lot of treatment options for prostate cancer. getting the correct medical treatment is of paramount importance. Also having periodic checks to catch it early improves the odds of curing prostate cancer dramatically.
Milk?! I drink a lot of milk because I have always been told that it was healthy and good for my body. I do try to avoid canned foods as I have never liked the taste but I am going to have a hard time giving up milk.
Can I substitute real dairy for soy or almond milk and be protected? I don’t think I am ready to give up dairy products just yet but I want to avoid prostate cancer just the same.
